Who is the Zero Breeze Mark 2 best for?

The Zero Breeze Mark 2 is best for multi-purpose use. It offers fast and reliable cooling indoors, outdoors, and in RVs.

For a long time, the Ecoflow Wave 2 was my go-to AC, but now I think the Zero Breeze Mark 2 is the best bet for those serious about cooling.

It's compact, powerful, and more versatile than most other portable ACs, offering impressive cooling for a battery-powered model.

This AC generates 2300 BTU, far more than the BougeRV or IcyBreeze V2, and can cool around 200 square feet. What stood out for me was the speed of cooling.

It reduced the temperature in my RV by 25-30 degrees in under 10 minutes and cooled my tent even quicker.

Despite the power, it still runs reasonably quietly, around 55 decibels on the highest setting.

It doesn't run as quietly as the BougeRV (40-50 dB), but I can run it at night without being disturbed.

The setup is fast and even non-DIYers can manage it. The Zero Breeze Mark 2 fits directly into a large battery pack (which is sold separately, so definitely get the bundled package).

ZeroBreeze Mark 2 On the Go

The drain pipe and vent hoses clip straight into the back in seconds, and there are no complicated connections or accessories.

What I value most about this AC is its versatility. The battery pack offers 5-7 hours of cooling, which is above average for an AC of this size.

Still, the unit can also run through a regular outlet or use solar panels. That means more flexibility in how and where I can use it.

In the future, I might buy a second battery so that I don’t have to go without cooling during the recharging period of 6 hours. For now, I’m just planning my usage carefully.

It also has programmable settings, various fan speeds to customize the cooling output, and functions like sleep mode—all controlled with touch controls and a clear display screen. I liked how I could easily change the output according to how I was feeling.

The only downside of the Zero Breeze Mark 2 is its cost, which starts at $1,000 before the battery.

That said, I think the performance, features, and quality easily justify the price.

Who is the Ecoflow Wave 2 best for?

The Ecoflow Wave 2 provides heating and cooling and is best for use in areas with hot days and cool nights.

The Ecoflow Wave 2 is a workhorse. I have not found any battery-powered ACs that match its performance, and I use it in my tent, camper, and RV.

The 5100 BTU offers similar cooling to the Zero Breeze Mark 2 and reduces the temperature in my RV by 15-20 degrees in just 5 minutes.

It also offers a heating function that supplies 6100 BTUs of hot air. It’s ideal for my overnight camping trips and gives me complete temperature control.

I did find the cooling function more effective than the heating function, but the combination was a real asset in my RV.

It maintained a steady temperature over about a 200-square-foot space, and while I wouldn’t use it in large, open-plan rooms - it’s plenty for tents and campers.

The Ecoflow unit is larger and heavier than other models, almost 50 pounds with the built-in battery.

I couldn't move it as easily as the BougeRV or MightyKool V2. I found it best for use in one of two dedicated areas and only moved it periodically.

However, the Ecoflow Wave 2 is not some bulky, outdated cooler.

It has modern, user-friendly features I appreciate, including a Wi-Fi app remote control (the Ecoflow App) that lets me monitor the performance and change fan speeds from my phone.

I can even switch between sleep and eco mode to regulate the AC power and cooling output.

Considering the cooling power, I found the battery life surprisingly impressive.

It runs for about 4-6 hours on a single charge (8-10 hours if I stuck to eco mode), and I could charge it through wall outlets, my car, and the solar panel attachments (I did pay extra for those).

I also really valued the 15-minute rapid recharge that minimized downtime.

Like the Zero Breeze, the main downside is the price, which retails around $900-$1000. Still, I'm happy to pay for the heating and cooling functionality, capacity, and features.

I wouldn't use this AC for short-term use in small spaces because it would be overkill, but I recommend it for use in larger areas requiring consistent temperature control.

Who is the BougeRV best for?

The BougeRV is best for campers and outdoor enthusiasts who need compact cooling tents or small RVs.

The BougeRV is my go-to tent AC because it's compact, simple, and offers reliable cooling to keep me comfortable when camping.

It let me adjust the cooling output as needed, and it only took about 20 minutes to reduce the temperature by 20-30 degrees, which is impressive.

It makes short work of hot tents or vehicles - but I found it less effective in my larger RV.

This AC can't compete with the versatility of the Zero Breeze Mark 2 or the power of the Ecoflow Wave 2, but I found it ideal for cooling tents.

It's compact and runs quietly, occupying minimum space and staying below 50 decibels.

It's not quite as quiet as the Ecoflow Wave 2, but I slept soundly with it running in the tent.

What I like most about the BougeRV is its simplicity.

There's no remote control or Bluetooth/Wi-Fi app, but it does have four modes (Cool, Strong, Fan, and Sleep) and three fan levels.

I mostly kept it on cool or strong during the day, and it kept a comfortable temperature.

I would have appreciated a better air filter on the vent system because I use it in close quarters, but it's not a huge problem.

My main issue with the BougeRV was the lack of a battery pack.

A separate portable generator is needed as a power source, and you can't use a car charger because it will drain the battery.

I did experiment with the portable solar panel kit but found it took too long to recharge.

Despite having fewer power options and less versatility than the Zero Breeze and Ecoflow ACs, I still found it a useful companion for camping adventures.

At $700, it is expensive, but I think the all-round quality offers longevity and value for money.

The IcyBreeze V2 Pro is a cooler and a personal AC in one.

I can use the 25mph fan to stay cool and the box to keep about 50 cans cold - so it's a real asset during outdoor family gatherings.

The IcyBreeze works using ice instead of refrigerant and is surprisingly effective.

I got it to reduce the temperature in a small closed space by as much as 35 degrees in an hour - far more than the MightyKool K2.

I wouldn't compare this model with the premium Zero Breeze Mark 2 or Ecoflow Wave 2 portable air conditioners. Still, I value it as a targeted personal cooler.

I appreciated how the multi-directional fan makes it easy to direct air to specific places and offers more targeted cooling than the Bucket Breeze.

The lightweight (25 pounds) and roller wheels also let me place it exactly where I needed it to maximize the cooling.

I paid for the upgraded IcyBreeze platinum model because it offered significantly more cooling output.

It says 3000 BTU, which should deliver 200-300 square feet of cooling, but it's probably under 75 square feet in real life.

However, it provides a good supply of cool air for smaller spaces.

My only major issue with this model is the recharge time.

The battery life is good (up to 8 hours), but it takes almost 5 hours to charge. I only use mine occasionally, so it's less of a problem.

I would not use the IcyBreeze V2 Pro for heavy-duty cooling, but I recommend it for keeping you comfortable and your drinks cold.

Louisiana isn’t just hot and humid, it’s also hurricane-prone. I never feel over-prepared, and I use the Bucket Breeze as my cooling solution for emergencies.

The AC coverage and capacity are limited, and it struggles in my small 30-square-foot tent.

However, I know the simple and low-energy cooling system can keep working even if all other power fails.

It works using evaporative cooling principles. A small fan (up to 175 CFM) directs air over a gel-based refrigerant to draw out heat.

It can run for 6-8 hours, and I found it works most effectively when I added ice water.

It has three fan speeds to choose from, and it lowers the temperature noticeably in 5-10 minutes in very compact spaces.

Bucket Breeze Medium

I like the Bucket Breeze as a back-up AC system because of its simplicity.

Like the IcyBreeze V2 Pro, it does not require setup or installation and barely draws any power—just a 12V power source supplied through 8 AA batteries.

The lack of a compressor system and battery pack makes it very lightweight (under 10 pounds), so I can pack it away when it's not in use.

The major downside of the Bucket Breeze portable air conditioner is its output, which is why I recommend it only as a back-up method.

This AC won't cool my RV and would not be my first choice for even short camping expeditions.

However, at $60-$80, it's an affordable back-up portable air conditioner that offers me peace of mind.

The MightyKool K2 is best as a personal cooler in small vehicles, tents, trailers, or offices.

The MightyKool K2 is technically an evaporative cooler, not an AC, but I still find it handy when the temperature spikes.

I use it when car camping or sometimes just at my desk while working. It won't cool a whole RV or large tent but offers a cheaper alternative to the BougeRV.

It works using a basic fan system and water (that you pour in each time) to draw air over the cold water, capture heat, and push it back through two vents.

I really appreciated that I could direct the air as needed, and the 3-speed settings gave me about as much cooling power as the IcyBreeze V2 Pro.

MightyKool K2 controls

The K2 can’t cool larger spaces like the Ecoflow Wave can, but it can keep me cool even in hot and humid conditions.

The run time is long enough to keep me cool overnight (7-8 hours), and the battery pack recharges quickly through solar panels or an outlet (typically under 30 minutes per charge).

Plus, this unit is lightweight and compact for easy moving between locations.

I usually move it between my office and car but store it when not in use because it is noticeably less aesthetic than the Zero Breeze Mark 2.

Like the Bucket Breeze, the biggest drawback of the K2 was its limited output.

Its evaporative cooling system is less effective during high humidity levels and can't match the capacity of the Ecoflow Wave or Zero Breeze models.

However, this simple cooling solution is far cheaper, and I think it offers good value in small spaces.

Why I Don’t Recommend Buying Personal Air Coolers

I've used portable air conditioners and air coolers over the years.

While they may seem similar, their cooling mechanism and temperature control are surprisingly different.

Personal coolers use evaporative cooling instead of the compressor-based refrigeration cycle in portable air conditioning systems.

They draw warm air over a wet cooling pad that absorbs heat, and the cooler but more humid air is blown into the room [1].

Personal air coolers are typically smaller, lighter, and more portable.

However, I've found portable air conditioners far more effective overall for a few key reasons:

  • Personal air coolers have limited coverage and effectiveness.
  • Personal air coolers don't work well in high-humidity areas.[2]
  • Personal air coolers don't work year-round.

EVAPORATIVE COOLER NOT EQUAL TO PORTABLE AC

When are Personal Air Coolers Useful?

Personal air coolers can be a cost-effective way to cool a small, dry, and low-humidity area and can keep you comfortable if you choose a reliable model.

I used the Evapolar EvaChill in my old office to keep the temperature cool and purify the air[3].

It runs quietly (under 50 decibels), is lightweight, and the battery is quick to charge - so I found it a good investment.


Models to Avoid

1 - The EUASOO Portable AC

This air conditioner looked good at first, with solid BTU output, coverage up to 200 square feet, and lightweight options.

It was a model I wanted to try, but when I looked closer, it became obvious that it was a low-quality knockoff.

The specifications were listed inconsistently in different places, and it was impossible to know how it would perform.

I didn't recognize the brand name, and the user reviews didn't even match the listed product!

I recommend avoiding this one as there are a lot of red flags.


2 - The PPQ iCold 5Pro

Like the EUASOO, the PPQ iCold 5Pro seemed like a solid portable AC.

The output stated was nearly identical to the Ecoflow Wave 2 but with a longer run time and a lighter weight. All of this seemed too good to be true, and it was.

The actual technical specifications of this model were vague, but the cooling output seemed limited.

The air didn't come out as cold as other premium ACs, and the two fan speed settings are not strong enough to cool a tent or RV.

I expect a lot more at this price point, and this AC seems like a cheap knockoff of other premium AC brands, with downgraded output and less durability.

There's also no warranty protection, which is always a red flag.



What I Think About Before Buying Any Battery-Powered AC

Think About Capacity Vs the Area You Are Cooling

Matching the AC output to the size of the area I'm cooling helps me achieve the best results.

ROOM COVERAGE

Even the best battery-powered AC can only cover so much space; if the output is too low, it won't cool the space.

Knowing the output (in BTU) and coverage area (in square feet) helps me to find the right portable air conditioner for the job.

The average BTU rating for a battery-powered portable air conditioner is 1500-5000 BTU—far lower than that of a standard AC system[4].

You should be able to find the BTU output of your portable AC in the specifications. The table below gives a rough guide I use to help choose the best system.

Is The Installation Process User-Friendly?

I prefer battery-powered ACs with minimal assembly (this should be clear from the specs), and most portable AC models are simple to install.

I recommend models like the MightyKool V2 for less DIY-savvy homeowners because they offer plug-and-play functionality, but all the models listed above are straightforward (even those with a dual hose setup).

I also recommend avoiding portable air conditioner models with permanent mounting or ducting, especially if you aren’t using the AC regularly. 

These limit the portability and flexibility of your AC.

TL;DR: Ideally battery powered ACs must be easy to install and operate and should not require expert assembly.

Consider Noise Level Vs Where It Will Be Used

Portable air conditioner noise levels typically range from 45 to 70 decibels[5].

I find that quieter portable air conditioner models are more expensive, but it's often worth the cost if you're using it in close quarters.

Large evaporative coolers, depending on their size and CFM, are almost as loud as ACs. However, the smaller personal coolers can be fairly quiet.

TL;DR: Noise level varies from model to model and also depends upon the settings you choose. On low settings or in sleep mode, you can get less than 50 dB noise level.

How Long Are You Planning To Run The Air Conditioner?

The average battery air conditioner will run for 4-7 hours.

I prefer longer run times offered by models like the Zero Breeze Mark 2 or Ecoflow Wave 2 offer - but at a minimum, I recommend looking for 4-6-hours per charge.

I would also recommend looking at additional add-on battery options to extend the run time.

TL;DR: Most battery powered ACs can run between 4-7 hours depending upon the settings you choose.

How Will You Recharge The AC?

I also carefully consider how I can recharge my portable air conditioner so I know how to top up the power as needed. 

There are different charging options available:

  • Direct plug-in charging to standard electrical outlets.
  • Car charging using a DC attachment/adapter.
  • USB charging connection to laptops, PCs, wall adapters, or power banks.
  • Solar charging using compatible panels and an adapter for rechargeable batteries.[6]

I use rechargeable ACs indoors, outdoors, and in my RV - so I prefer a versatile AC with several charging options - like the Zero Breeze Mark 2 or Ecoflow Wave 2.

TL;DR: Consider recharging options. AC battery can be recharges via electrical outlets, car charger, solar power and even large power banks.

What's The Recharge Time?

I also check the battery charge time to know how long I'll be without cooling between cycles.

Most battery-powered AC unit models have a reasonably efficient 1-3 hours charge time that's fine for most people and won't lead to much downtime.

I look for extra battery packs to use the AC without interruption.

Some ACs, like the IcyBreeze V2 Pro, have a 5-hour+ recharge time, which impacts how I use it.

Check the recharge time suits your needs before you buy because it can also affect your electric bills and how much you spend on energy.

TL;DR: Battery powered ACs take about 1-3 hours to charge. For uninterrupted cooling, consider purchasing additional battery packs.

Does the Size and Style Fit In Your Home?

My portable AC is always out, so I prefer ACs with sleek, modern designs that fit in my home.

If your AC will be visible frequently, I recommend a stylish model like the Zero Breeze Mark 2 over the less aesthetic MightyKool K2.

TL;DR: Aesthetics can also be an important factor to consider.

How Portable Is It?

I use battery-powered air conditioners indoors, outdoors, and in my vehicles, so a lightweight and compact AC suits me perfectly - but it's worth considering your needs.

If you have one primary location for your AC, a slightly less portable model like the Ecoflow Wave 2 will work well.

If you move your AC frequently, I recommend the compact Zero Breeze Mark 2 or BougeRV - as both are lightweight and have handles for easy carrying.

TL;DR: Battery powered ACs are generally intended to be moved around, hence the lighter the unit, the better.

What Warranty Protection Do They Offer?

I never buy an appliance without a warranty, and for portable air conditioners, I look for at least 1-2 years of coverage.

Some ACs, like the Ecoflow Wave 2, have extended warranties of 3 years or more, offering better long-term protection.

Always check the warranty terms and conditions so you know what’s covered.

I recommend ensuring the compressor and battery are the two most expensive components to replace/repair.

TL;DR: Look for at least 1 year warranty coverage. Some quality models can feature up to 3 years of warranty.

Features Vs Price

I appreciate the features of modern portable air conditioners, but they often increase the price considerably.

I always consider my essentials first - cooling capacity, power supply, run time, and coverage - before any extras.

I recommend models like the Zero Breeze Mark 2 and Ecoflow Wave 2 for those who prefer advanced AC technology.

They have impressive integration and mobile app controls for easy use, and other models have programmable features and offer air filtration.

If you prefer to spend less on a basic model, I recommend the IcyBreeze V2 Pro.

TL;DR: Additional features like app control can add further to the overall cost of the AC.
