Turbro Suburbs TS20 Electric Fireplace Review

The Turbro Suburbs TS20 Electric Fireplace is a modern-day space heater with vintage style.

There is nothing like curling up with a cozy blanket to settle in for a good book or the latest movie. But there are those days when we just can’t seem to get warm no matter what we do.

Thankfully, there’s an alternative to cranking your home thermostat all the way up or packing on another layer of socks.

Space heaters, like the Turbro Suburbs TS20 Electric Fireplace Heater we review here, are a great way to add supplemental heating and style to your living space.

If you’ve never heard of the Turbro brand, it’s only because they’re a newer company that is still getting their footing in the world of big-name brands. Turbro was started in 2013 with a mission to “create energy-saving products that improve the lives’ of the consumers through innovative technologies and unparalleled design.”

With their products, Turbro aims to focus on new energy conservation technology, eco-friendly products, and items that allow us to breathe only the cleanest air. Right now their product line is limited to space heaters, vacuums, and other HVAC parts/accessories.

Features of the Turbro Suburbs TS20 Electric Fireplace

The Turbro Suburbs TS20 Electric Fireplace is a modern-day space heater with vintage style, made to look like an old cast-iron stove. We’ve broken down all the notable features here for your reference.

The TS20 is a 20” space heater with a style that makes it look like you took it right out of your great-grandparent’s home. It truly has a look and feel like a heavy-duty cast-iron stove that would weigh a hundred pounds. You won’t have any problem moving this heater from room to room though – the actual weight is under 16 lbs.

Setup is easy with Turbro, as the only thing you need to do is attach the four metal legs with three screws each. When reading the reviews, we found that this was tricky for a lot of folks. We’ll admit you will need a longer screwdriver, but the entire process should only take about 15-20 minutes. It will be even faster if you have a partner to hold the legs in place while you work.

Room Heating Size

This particular model is rated to heat spaces of up to 1,000 square feet, and I’d have to say that is pretty accurate. It should be noted, though, that the Turbro TS20 is not meant to be your only source of heat. This is a great addition to any home furnace/HVAC system. You won’t feel over-powered with heat if you’re sitting directly in front of the unit, as it works gently to create warmth for the whole area.

BTUs and Power Consumption

The space heater functions at 4,777 BTUs, or 1,400 watts. The crucial thing to note here is that although this unit can be plugged into a standard outlet, it does run at about 11.67 amps. Turbro suggests that if you’re using an average 15 amp circuit breaker to make sure that the space heater is the only item on the circuit breaker because it will use almost the entire 80% of the recommended amperage. Never plug this space heater into the same outlet as your laptop, TV, etc.

Temperature Range

A dial inside the door allows you to adjust the temperature range from 68F to 95F. We love that the controls are hidden unless the door is open. This particular model cannot be used with a remote control.

Realistic Flame Technology

Red and orange LED lights make a “dancing flame” effect inside this space heater that gives the ambient glow of a real fire. There are three windows, so you can have the perfect panoramic view, no matter where you are in the room.

Safety Features

The Turbro Suburbs TS20 is North American CSA certified, and it safe to use around young children and pets (with supervision, of course). There is an automatic shut-off feature that will ensure you do not overheat, and the model has cool-to-touch glass for curious little fingers and noses.

Price and Warranty

Many of the electric fireplaces and heaters on the market today cost several hundred dollars and would be considered a luxury product. The TS20 comes at just a fraction of what comparable items are and is backed by a one-year warranty for your peace of mind. It should be noted, however, that you will need to register your product in order to activate your warranty.

My Experience Using the Turbro TS20 in my Home

I will have to admit that I was very excited to review this product, primarily because I work from home and my office is undoubtedly the coldest room in my house. When it arrived, I couldn’t wait to get it up and running.

The packaging for this particular model is immaculate. I was worried that such a lightweight product (just under 16 lbs) could get tossed around and scratched during shipping, but each piece was delicately wrapped and packed with Styrofoam. To set up, all you need to do is attach the legs, and you’re ready to go. Within 15 minutes, my husband and I had it up and running.

One of the nice things about the Turbro TS20 is that it does not require any off-gassing. Many products of this nature require you to run them in a well-ventilated area like an open garage, or that they be set aside for a period of time before use. The product manual suggests that you may smell a “new product smell” for about 15 minutes for this first use, or the first time after it has been in storage awhile. To be honest, we really only noticed any smell for the first 2-3 minutes.

This space heater can heat a space quickly and comfortably! Not only is it great for my office, but my husband enjoys using it in our garage (which doubles as both a workshop and exercise area). Although meant for supplemental heating, I can see this unit being the perfect companion for a screen-in porch as well. Please note though that it is not for outdoor use and will not hold up to rain, etc.

Beyond the actual heat though, the primary reason many people turn to the Turbro TS20 is because of its beautiful aesthetics. It has a vintage charm that will add an elegance to any style home, and the “real flame” dancing LED lights just put this model over the top. My absolute favorite feature is that you can use the lights without the heating function. It’s beautiful and just adds so much charm – I can’t wait to show off this little heater at our annual Christmas party.
