After installing several mini splits in my own home and rental homes and apartments, this is a brand I've come to trust.
Of course, every AC brand has pros and cons, and Gree is no exception to that rule.

Gree mini split – quick guide!
Gree Sapphire Series
With a remarkable 38 SEER rating, it ensures maximum energy efficiency, significantly reducing energy costs. Also, this series operates super quietly, providing a comfortable environment without any disruptive noise.
Gree Vireo+ Series
These systems feature Gree's G10 Inverter and variable compressor technology, running on eco-friendly R410A refrigerant. They are more energy efficient than the Livo+ line, but are still budget friendly.
Gree Livo+
While the Livo+ line is perfectly acceptable, I always encourage my customers to spend just a few hundred dollars more upfront on the Gree Vireo+ line. On the 12000 BTU model, the Vireo+ has a 22 SEER, whereas the Livo+ only has a 16 SEER. The long-term savings by upgrading to the Vireo line will be significant.
My experiences with Gree mini split air conditioners
Gree specializes in both single-zone indoor units for cooling a bedroom or small space as well as multi-zone mini splits for reaching several rooms at once.
For my new system from Gree, I chose the Sapphire wall-mounted indoor unit for its insanely high 27 SEER rating and advanced features.
Compared to other mini splits I've used from other companies, the Sapphire doesn't disappoint.
In addition to high-efficiency ratings (more on that in a bit), this mini split offers controlled heating and cooling, an intelligent defrosting feature, an elegant design, and additional features like WiFi controls, timers, smart preheating, and sleep functionality.
Keep in mind that this specific model - the Sapphire - is one of Gree's top-of-the-line models, so it comes with all the bells and whistles.
Not all units are as comprehensive and advanced as this one, and you have to be willing to spend a bit more on this piece of equipment.

Over its 33 years in business, Gree has developed a reputation for reliability among its 500 million customers worldwide.
That being said, I do have a few minor complaints about the company, but I have mostly only good things to say.

Understanding initial investment vs long-term payoff
Air conditioning should always be seen as a long-term investment, especially with the rising cost of electricity these days.
If you want this investment to last and save you money in the long run, energy efficiency is a key consideration.
Energy-efficient AC units tend to cost more upfront, but that has never stopped me from buying one.
Over time, the greater energy efficiency and high SEER rating will pay for itself, and you’ll be spending a lot less on utility bills from month to month.
Every mini-split from Gree is Energy Star ranked with SEER ratings of 20 or higher.
While the higher SEER units may cost more - like the Sapphire mini split - you’ll be paying less over time for your cooling and heating needs.

Advanced technology compared to competitors
One thing I especially love about Gree is the company’s dedication to innovation.
Every year, 3% of Gree’s budget goes to research and development, and while 3% may not seem like a lot, it’s a VERY large budget.
In terms of HVAC innovation, my favorite Gree feature is the I-Feel technology.
With this feature, temperature is sensed by the remote controller instead of by the unit itself.
This results in more comfortable temperature adjustments and greater energy savings.
Optimal energy efficiency
Speaking of energy savings, Gree is the top contender in this category. I’ve always been impressed with these units’ SEER ratings, especially in the past few years.
All Gree mini splits are Energy Star qualified with SEER ratings of up to 38.
Compared to the 18-22 SEER of a typical unit, that’s pretty darn good.
Quiet operation
Gree mini split ACs and Gree heat pump units are notorious for being the quietest HVAC solution out there.
Everything from the fan to the compressor to the inverter is whisper-quiet with an average noise level of 32 decibels (central air conditioners range anywhere from 50 to 72 decibels).
The noisiest component of any ductless system is the compressor, which is why Gree makes it possible to install the compressor as much as 100 feet away from the indoor unit.
Thanks to this feature, I’ve noticed that my Sapphire is much quieter than any window-mounted AC I’ve used in the past.
Small footprint & compact design
I have a small yard and a limited amount of outdoor space, which is why I love Gree's focus on small footprints and compact designs.
The outdoor unit takes up about half the ground space compared to conventional mini-split equipment from other brands.
Extreme reliability
Gree parts are built to last, and the outside unit is specifically designed to withstand the elements.
Each unit features automatic system diagnostics that continuously scan for errors or malfunctions, and codes are shown on the unit display to help with troubleshooting and repair.
How does the energy efficiency compare to other brands?
While typical air conditioning systems cap out at about 18 SEER, some Gree models feature a whopping 38 SEER.
This brand develops HVAC systems that go easy on the planet, and that includes its roster of mini split models.
Pioneer caps out at about 23 SEER for its most efficient unit, and the same goes for Trane.
While this is still a perfectly adequate efficiency rating, it’s nothing compared to what Gree can offer.
Gree has pulled out all the stops for producing mini splits and heat pumps that efficiently operate by integrating these key factors for improved efficiency:
Higher efficiency ratings don't come cheap, at least not upfront.
While the costs associated with running your mini split will be lower over time, the upfront cost of an energy-efficient unit is more than that of a less efficient model.
This is the case for any manufacturer, and I’ve noticed that Gree is no exception.
The good news, though, is that I was able to claim almost $2,700 in tax credits thanks to my Gree Sapphire’s high-efficiency rating.

I won't bore you by covering every single Gree model available because, let's face it, there are a lot of them.
It's still worth covering the different Gree mini split series, which currently includes the Livo, Vireo, Sapphire, and Multi.
Livo
The Gree Livo series is all about affordable pricing.
At 17.5 to 20 SEER, these aren’t the most efficient systems offered by the company, but they are the cheapest.
The Livo GEN4 is the most popular choice in this series.

It’s the most efficient and quietest Gree system available, and similar to the Vireo GEN3, it’s eligible for significant tax credits.

You have the choice between the Multi GEN2, which is the best in terms of efficiency, or you can buy the Multi+ ULTRA, which is ideal for extreme outdoor conditions.
I prefer the Multi GEN2 for its 21 SEER rating.

Sure, it's much easier than installing a central air system, but it's a lot more complicated than installing a window unit or portable AC.

Gree vs Daikin
Both Daikin and Gree are Asian-owned companies - Gree is from China, and Daikin is from Japan.
Both brands are recognized for developing quality, reliable mini splits. Still, I personally trust Gree over Daikin for a few reasons.
First, many Daikin products are actually manufactured by Gree.
While Daikin still plans and develops its products, it outsources many of its materials to Gree, making Gree the winner, if you ask me.
Secondly, Gree has more options to choose from, particularly in the mini-split category. To top it off, Gree stands out regarding energy efficiency, saving customers money on electricity bills in the long run.
Gree vs Senville
Senville is a Canadian company with headquarters based in Montreal, making shipping to the US very easy.
This company has only been around since 2005, but it has still gained a solid reputation among homeowners and business owners.
Compared to Senville, Gree’s products are pretty pricy, especially for dual-, tri-, and quad-zone mini splits.
However, I’m willing to pay slightly more for a mini split with Gree’s name on it, mainly because I trust the brand and value these appliances’ energy efficiency.
Gree vs Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi mini splits are just average compared to what Gree has to offer, but average isn’t always bad.
While the cost is lower when you opt for Mitsubishi, you’ll notice that most other factors fall short compared to Gree, including efficiency ratings, noise levels, ease of use, and dimensions.
The only thing that Mitsubishi has to offer over Gree is a longer warranty period.
Rather than 10 years on the compressor, Mitsubishi has a well-rounded warranty policy that covers the compressor as well as parts for 12 years.
